The agricultural reform laws introduced by the Indian government will drive down crop prices and devastate farmers’ earnings — effectively ending their way of life.

Farmers are leading the protests, supported by farmers and labourers from all over India.

The new laws explicitly prevent farmers from seeking legal recourse if massive corporate interests begin to exploit them. Farmers are forbidden from accessing the courts.

The new laws were introduced silently contrary to India’s own constitution. India’s contempt for the common people is evident — they believed the farmers would be too stupid to notice.

The new farm bills are positioned to eliminate independent farmers, while enriching a handful of corporations — owned by the same ultra-wealthy families who are backing India’s ruling party.

Companies such as Reliance Industries, of the Ambani family, or Adani Enterprises stand to immediately benefit from the new farm bills.

Corporatization of agriculture will also allow other multinational companies to move in and bully the small, independent farmers who are trying to save their way of life.

THE HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUE — WHY SHOULD YOU CARE?

There will be a massive human cost under the new laws. 50% of India’s working population is employed in agriculture. Corporations competing directly with small landowners and dictating terms to contract farmers will amount to slavery.

Indian media is in the pocket of the government — they are undertaking a massive disinformation campaign using their national channels, labeling the protestors as terrorists or anti-national. Even Facebook and Instagram are compromised by India’s influence.

India has a long history of using violence to silence dissent. There is fear that as momentum grows against the new laws, the only thing preventing another bloody massacre of the innocent is international attention from people like YOU.
